Managing footnotes that span multiple pages in InDesign can be a hassle. I created a custom script that automatically inserts markers to show when a footnote continues onto the next page and when it resumes from a previous page. This ensures your documents stay clear and organized.
What the Script Does
- User Interaction: A dialog lets you choose to either create/update markers or remove existing ones.
- Inserts Custom Markers: For footnotes that cross pages, it adds a “continue on next page” mark at the bottom and a “continue from previous page” mark at the top, you can change the default symbols (
"=>", "<="
) as desired. Manages Styles: It automatically creates or updates object and paragraph styles to maintain a consistent look. Tweak object and paragraph styles to fit your design and adjust the frame size and position.
download the script from here (right-click and choose "save target as"), copy it to the scripts folder and run it.
